New Threads for a Growing Boy
I'm going to make this a quick one because I want to go to bed and read...And my computer is frustrating me, I'm afraid it might crash again. It's so old and slow vintage I'm thinking of taking it to the antique road show to see what she's worth! Anyway, I digress! Today I made Owen a vest and pants out of some old clothes that no longer fit. The vest was an old hoodie and vest that I combined to make longer and added some decoration. I also used one of the sleeves to make Lily a drawstring pouch to wear around her neck to keep her latest treasures close (some stones, coins and fairy dust). I did the same to the pants, added some length+decoration and there you have it! Free clothes, yay! Now time for bed. nighty night!

Birthday crafting cram
OK, so it's another crafty post. I do so much more knitting and crafting in the winter when the nights are long and chilly. we have a birthday party to go to this weekend and in true form I decide to make something just a day or two before. This is why I love big chunky wool and big knitting needles...I can make something cute in just a few hours! Holidays for kids always seem so full of plastic and such that I think it's nice to make something for them instead. Don't get me wrong, my kids have more that their fair share of plastic crap too, but I try to make what I can. So, with T-minus one day I pumped out a hat and ribbon wand! Oh yeah, I was feeling like super mom...until my little guy peed on the coffee table and brought me back to reality. I modified this pattern for the hat and the wand is just wooden dowel with fancy tape ( I bought for wrapping hula hoops) and an eyelet hook to attach the ribbon. Hope the special four year old likes them! I'd like to thank wooden duck, Jules the cat and little pink chair (which is both plastic and crappy) for helping me with the photo shoot!

cold weather craftiness
I love turning old, crappy, used stuff into things I like. Hence, my love of compost and trying to upcycle clothing from thrift store finds. This is also good because I live in a small town and dress like a weird hippy a little different than most people here, so I have to make some of my stuff. Apart from few locally owned businesses, shopping here is pretty dismal (one word. Walmart, ugh). It's also great to be reusing something to help out mama earth.
This week got pretty cold here, it was -6C This morning. While this may be a balmy winter day in most of Canada, here on the west coast it's frickin freezing! Even though this cold might kill the last of the kale in the garden I still love it! The snow and sun is a welcome break from the usual constant rain and grey of winter here. I had this old vest from the sally-ann that I thought would make a warm skirt so this morning while the kiddies ate their breaky I did a little chopping and sewing. I had already felted it a bit in the wash, and probably should have put it through one more time, but I'm a "good enough, art isn't supposed to be perfect" kinda gal. So, here it is! Warm woolie skirt for our brief cold snap (supposed to turn back to rain by the weekend boooo!)

Take Two
OK, so maybe this blogging thing isn't for me! I wrote a couple posts in the summer, felt like it was taking up too much of my time (I have an old slow computer which makes downloading photos downright painful!). I also kinda got freaked out the people I don't know are getting a glimpse into my life. But isn't that what drew me into this in the first place?! The connection with other like minded people even though they may be far away!I am going to give this another try with no pressure. No one is reading this anyway so it doesn't really matter if I post or not, haha! I'll think of it as a journal that I left on the coffee table for anyone to read.
I'm super excited about so many things going on right now, I think I'll need to share some of it here. I'm starting my Yoga teacher training this March (YEAH, pretty stoked about that!).So here I go again, camera's rolling, Take two of me trying to be a blogger...and Action!
